Insecuritys by Christopher stewart

Christopher stewart (seesaw)
Christophers 10year project insecurity looks into the real and imagened state of insecurity. His work is a more documentory stance, and yet retains some level of creation. He photographs people intenationally. His images are very different and looks at different parts of insecurity. Some show people looking out windows, checking to see if someones there, paranoya in a sence. others showing watch towers and such. He looks at the fear aspect and how people combat that and how they react to it. it reminds me of the 'stalker' like approach but here we almost see the opposit of what the reaction would be that feeling of being followed or watched. He uses creative use of light, from the atmosphere of the first image, the man looking through the blinds with very dramatic lighting, while the opposit the harsh floresent lighting of the sixth image. While the ideas come from the documentry approach of his reserch its clear the images are thought out and not candid. I like this, that the research lends itself to the documentry, the well thoguth out. I like the idea that it shows how we try to protect ourselves from what could happen and refers me back to darwins survival of the fittest.
