Jane Brettle

While previously looking at Kate Mellor and her use of art to base her highly atmospheric work on, I found another photographer that basis her work on art, only this time she photographs acient statues and recreates an image similar and uses them as diptychs together. The project entitled Resteration works looks at the notion of the ideal represented by sculptures of women by the 19th Century neo-classical sculptor Antonio Canova in relation to portraits of contemporary women. Posing the women in similar poses and in familiar and work related locations. While they are only loosely linked to each other, its a very clever idea and works well. While it has not alot to do with fear, but against the idea of basing photos on paintings and art.
